If I’m going to go through all the effort, coming out of my comfort zone, time-consuming discussions for evangelism – you can be sure I want to be involved in effective evangelism.
Sometimes I have thought that if I can bring one person to Jesus, I’ve fulfilled my mission. As I’ve thought about it, I am not sure that is biblical. As I’ve tried to take seriously Jesus’ statement that those who believe in Him will do as He commands, his call to go and make disciples has weighed heavily upon my heart.
What’s our Lord’s expectation for me? Does Jesus even care about numbers? Absolutely. I’ve been praying and trying to understand in my life what God expects from me. I am more and more convinced that we are called to make disciples and that means being people who are multipliers. A multiplier doesn’t just simply share the good news but walks alongside others, shares their relationship with Christ with the other person, and helps them in turn go and make disciples.
I realize that there is a camp that believes that our mission as men is to bring our spouse and children closer to heaven. Great mission – great start.Jesus expounds clearly that our reach is beyond our immediate family.
Perhaps you are worried that your efforts will ultimately fail. One way to ensure failure is to be a lone wolf. We must be connected first, and we must also help others get connected. When we make disciples we must invite people into community and effective programs. CMF (Catholic Men’s Fellowship) is one of these programs. RCIA is another. Emmaus another.
Training is key. Yes, the Holy Spirit powers this effort and assures success. Some technique is helpful.
Remember we know the basics – start with prayer. If you don’t feel confident with prayer, get a prayer partner that is confident. CMF can help with that, just ask. Next engage in a CMF, RCIA, Christ Life or Emmaus group (to name a few).
There’s a spot for each of man to be a part of the mission of CMF – join us. For us, the Gathering is one of our great recruitment vehicles. We have space for 3500 men.
We need a few good men. We’re building an army. Sign-up today. If you’re already signed-up – get to work.
