Jesus is victorious over death. Easter is the greatest celebration for us as Christians! Not even death can defeat our God. There's no sin bigger than the cross, nothing in this world that Jesus' redeeming love can't touch.
The challenge of Easter is that it is not a one day celebration. Too often we celebrate Easter like people of no faith. We get to church, celebrate with our families, and then Monday everything is back to normal. Easter is a season for us as Catholics. It's a season that's actually longer than Lent. The challenge for us then is to not just celebrate for one day, but celebrate for a season.
I think in some ways Lent is easier than Easter. We can perhaps more easily identify with Jesus' suffering and death than his resurrection. Easter is about a reality that is tougher to live because we maybe haven't experienced it yet. It means life in the place of death. It means giving God the most broken parts of my life and asking him to make them new. This process isn't like being hit with a magical beam from God, but is a process that requires patience, vulnerability, and commitment. It's totally worth it.
One of my favorite Easter quotes is from St. John Paul II, "Do not abandon yourselves to despair. We are the Easter people and hallelujah is our song." We are called to realize the reality Fr. Dave talks about: the tomb is Empty.
Celebrate Easter. Ask God for new life this Easter season.
